Amy Askren was born on November 28, 1984, in South Carolina. As the daughter of a boxer and a martial artist father, fight sports have been a significant part of her life since a young age. Despite starting early in martial arts competitions, she primarily trained in boxing, reporting her first amateur fight at age 18. Amy shifted her focus primarily to mixed martial arts but came out of that career retired in 2013. As a National Gold Coach under the Cage Warriors Academy, Askren now focuses on cultivating a fraternity of talented instructors across the world.
